About 130 metres above the city, just above Montmartre's famed Sacre Coeur Cathedral, rests this charming square —an important part of the most elevated neighbourhood in Paris.
Place du Tertre has always attracted tourists with its picteuresque liveliness and artistic heritage (since the 19th century), with its amateur painters, caricaturists, and portrait artists all interacting with the people-watchers sitting and sipping on café terraces.
Since the worldwide release of Jeunet's film "The Fabulous Destiny of Amélie Poulain" the square's fame has grown leaps and bounds. Its village-like atmosphere peaks in the calm early-morning hours, before the swells of sightseers arrive, filling the square almost every afternoon.
